About Louis Jaque

Louis Jaque Born May 1, 1919 Montreal, Quebec Died January 7, 2010 ( aged 90) Montreal, Quebec is a Quebec painter.

Louis Jaque graduated from the Furniture School in 1938 and studied under Jean Paul Lemieux and Paul-Émile Borduas. He devoted himself to abstraction in the 1950s. Solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal in 1966. He was one of the founders in 1969 of the Société des Artistes Professionnels du Québec (SAPQ), as well as his first President. He made a monumental mural for the Quebec pavilion at the Osaka World's Fair in Japan in 1970. In 1972, he made another for the Maison de Radio-Canada, boulevard René-Lévesque east, in Montreal. In 1977, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts devoted a retrospective exhibition to him: Louis Jaque, 25 years of career. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. His works can be found in numerous public and private collections, notably in Canada, France, Italy and the United States.
