Robert Wolfe

Born in Montreal, QC in 1935 and died in 2003.

After finishing his studies at Montreal’s School of Fine Arts, Wolfe did a whole year of advanced training courses in engraving workshops in France. Robert Wolfe’s work spans over four decades and covers various mediums such as drawing, painting and engraving. Indeed Wolfe has always worked in large series that are dominated by color, in his paintings, and by quick and vigorous graphics, in his works on paper.

Represented by Graff Gallery since 1979, he showcased more than ten solo exhibitions there and many more in Toronto, Strasbourg and Basel, at the Musée d’art de Joliette, and at Expression, in Saint-Hyacinthe. He participated in numerous collective shows, notably in Belfast, Madrid and Toronto, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and at the Musée du Québec. In 2006, La Grande Bibliothèque du Québec showcased a vast retrospective of his work under the title L’’espace-couleur de Robert Wolfe, an exhibition that insightfully put in perspective the artist’s transitions from one medium to another.

His works are part of the collection of many museums across Canada as well as private and corporate collections here and abroad.
